Menstrual Cup Size
As depressing as it may seem, when ordering your new period cup or menstrual cup (you are going to use one, surely) make sure you admit that your body changes and make sure you order the correct size. If not, you may need live your live carrying out pelvic floor exercises just to keep the darn thing in place. Plus, if your menstrual cup is too small you’re looking at possible leakage. Not something we normally associate with period cups at all.
Sadly, as we get older our muscle tone is reduced leading to a slightly less snug vagina than we may hope for. This problem is compounded by conventional childbirth. If you are over thirty years of age or have had a child with a vaginal birth make sure you admit it and opt for the larger menstrual cup.
I was so close to ordering the smaller size. After all I haven’t had any children and was only just (or so I like to believe) over the thirty year threshold, surely my vagina couldn’t have suddenly expanded to gargantuan proportions in a few years? However, after looking into things a little more seriously, it really is important to ensure you choose the right size. After all, I may be in my thirties now, but I hope to still be using that same menstrual cup when I’m in my forties. Even I have to admit things are likely to have changed a little by then!
When you actually compare the sizes of different menstrual cups the whole issue of vagina’s expanding with age seems a tad less serious. After all, there are only 3mm difference between the diameter of the two sizes. The other dimensions do not alter at all. I have to say if all my muscle tone only drops by 3mm into my fifties I shall be a very happy lady indeed.
So, admit your age, face up to it, some of your bits will be every so slightly saggier than they used to be, order the correct size menstrual cup!
